Elizabeth Holmes Carpenter Brewer Elizabeth Holmes Carpenter Brewer, 85, of Charleston, went home to the Lord November 23, 2013. Liz was a Christian and attended Davis Chapel Church. She loved to cook and make sure no one was ever hungry. She was a former volunteer for the Red Cross. Elizabeth was also the first woman appointed as Justice of the Peace in West Virginia to assume duties of her late husband, Corky Carpenter in 1965. Liz was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Hestel "Corky" Carpenter; second husband, Denver Brewer; son, Thomas L. Carpenter; parents, Delbert and Pearl Edens Holmes; sisters, Ezyleen Tackett, Verdeen Sams and Marie Holmes; and brothers, Wilber and Leonard Holmes; daughter-in-law, Emma Carpenter. Survivors include her loving daughter, Janet Carpenter Runion and husband, Bobby of Sissonville; sons, Richard L. Carpenter of Dunbar and Kenneth E. Carpenter and wife, Michelle of Ft. Collins, CO; step-daughter, Jacquelyn C. Wise of Florida; step-son, Ronald E. Brewer of Tennessee; and grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Carpenter of Ft. Collins, CO, Rich Carpenter of Dunbar, Kenny Carpenter, Jr. and Kyle Carpenter both of Ft. Collins, CO and Scott Wise of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are her caregiver Becky Munsey and several nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to all she met. If someone was in need, Liz was always there. She was a very special person. "Come to Me" God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 29, 2013 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Mendez officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico.
