Obituary

Edward E. Carpenter, 88, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on February 15, 2014 at Cedar Ridge Center. Mr. Carpenter was a WWII Navy veteran. While in the Navy, he served for three and a half years aboard the Battleship Pennsylvania. He loved gardening, fishing, dancing, pitching horseshoes and also listening to Elvis Presley. Preceding him in death were his wife, Dorothy J. (Smith) Carpenter; parents, James and Lulu (Casdorph) Carpenter; sisters, Loretta Vannoy and Pat Jackson; brothers, Hesley and Hestel Carpenter; and granddaughter, Jessica. Survivors include his loving sons, Carroll Carpenter and wife, Sue, Charles Carpenter and wife, Patty, and Arlen Carpenter and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Amanda, Cody, Kaitlyn, Tina, Lisa and Lisa; and great-grandchildren, Cheyanne, Rachel, Danny, Leland, Devin, Derrick, Kayla, Stachia and Joseph. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Casdorph Cemetery, Charleston. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be 2 hours prior to service time Thursday at the Funeral Home. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff of Cedar Ridge Center for the wonderful care given to Edward.
