Obituary

Dorothy Melton Clark, 75, of Charleston, departed this life on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in CAMC Memorial Hospice Unit.

Born on February 19, 1949, from the union of Howard Franklin "Frank" Melton and JoAnn Wilkinson.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother, Edward Lee Melton.

She was educated in Kanawha County schools and completed her high school graduating from Sissonville High School.  She received an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences from West Virginia State College (University) in 1998.  She enjoyed working and did not stop until the cancer was so progressed.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Darrel Clark; their three daughters, Michelle Smith and husband, James, Melissa Monday and husband, Ralph, all of Charleston, Melanie Batten and husband, Phillip, of Bonaire, Georgia; her six grand-children, Zach Null and his wife, Katie, Reed Smith, Whitney Monday, Kendyl Monday, all of Charleston, and Barrett and Reagan Batten of Bonaire, Georgia; her four great-grandchildren Dawson and Davi Jo Null (Twins), Knox Facemeyer, and Walkyr Posey all of Charleston; sisters, Marie Underwood and her husband, David, of Charleston, and Linda Thomas of Big Stone Gap, Va; two brothers, James Melton and his wife, Cindy, of Charleston, and Jerry Melton and his wife, Esmerelda, of Richmond, Texas; special cousins that were more brother and sister, John Wilkinson, and Patsy Summers both of Charleston; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, near and far.

Dorothy was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend.  Quick witted, and full of wisdom. She was a great cook, and shared her love through cooking, and creating a home that was always a comfortable gathering place. She found joy in the time spent with her loved ones, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Her family would like to thank the Hospice nurse that came to the house to care for her, Erica Bailey.  Also, the wonderful Hospice nurses at Hubbard Hospice House at CAMC Memorial. They are very "special".  Thank you so much to the neighbors, family and friends who brought food, or come to visit Mom.  We can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate all of you.

A celebration of life will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, 1325 W. Washington Street, Charleston with Pastor Raymond Jordan officiating.
