Obituary

Dora Ann Coleman, 84, of South Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Having beaten the disease multiple times throughout her life, she faced each challenge with the same optimism, bright smile, and joyful spirit that defined her.

Born in Charleston, Dora Ann was a lifelong resident of the Kanawha Valley and made her home in South Charleston. A devoted follower of Christ, she lived her faith through kindness, service, and a gentle strength that uplifted everyone around her. She devoted decades to teaching in the public school system and also taught adult literacy, helping learners of all ages discover confidence, opportunity, and the power of education.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Sonny" Coleman, and her sister, Sue Goodwin.

Dora Ann is survived by her children—Laura, Sarah, and John—and by her cherished grandchildren, Logan, Luke, and Wyatt, who lovingly called her "Mimi" and were the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who will forever feel the warmth of her love.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd W, Charleston, WV 25387 (or online at hospicecarewv.org), in honor of her brave fight and hopeful spirit.

Dora Ann's legacy of happiness, courage, and love—especially her deep love for her grandchildren—will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
