Donald Rex Miller Donald Rex Miller, 90, left on November 4th to enter the glory Jesus has promised for all who call upon Him. He was hospitalized, and at Heartland/Eastbrook Nursing Home briefly. He was born in Smithers, West Virginia, the son of Judy Catherine Shamblin Miller and Otmer Hoyt Miller. He was retired from Union Carbide, where he worked as a pipefitter for over 30 years, and was employed by the Diamond Department Store in 1946, prior to working at Union Carbide. He was a long time active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Donald was a WW II veteran, having served in the US Army. He fought in battles across France, Luxembourg, and Belgium, ending up in Czechoslovakia. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the troops driving day and night to get there, had to be ready to fight upon arrival. He served on a self-propelled SP105 (an open tank) and also witnessed one of the camps at Nuremberg, which he said was a horrific experience. Preceding him in death were his wife of 50 years, Virginia St. Clair Miller; parents, Otmer and Judy Miller; and sisters, Gervaise Trout and Geraldine Farley. Surviving are daughters, Judith Rhule and husband Tom of Charleston, Sue Pennington and husband Jack of Joplin, MO; son, Ron Miller and wife, Lori of Charleston; grandson, Aaron Miller and wife Kendra; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan and Joshua Miller of Joplin, MO; granddaughter, Liz Rhule of Charleston; nephew, Rick Farley and wife, Jeannie of Dunbar; brother-in-law, Charles St. Clair and wife, Dorothy of Daytona Beach, FL; his good friend, Genevia Jennings of Cross Lanes; and his golfing buddy Bill Gessner of Charleston. Special thanks to his good friend, neighbor and guardian angel, Rosemary Monroe, and her son, Cam Monroe. They were always there for him and such a tremendous help; we cannot thank them enough. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1401 Washington Street, W., Charleston, with the Rev. Ron Stoner officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with military grave site rites by American Legion Post No. 91. Clendenin. Friends may call two hours prior to the service Saturday at the church.
