Claude Vincent Barnes, 78, of Charleston, passed away May 29, 2011 after a short illness. He was residing at the Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy, OH at the time of his death. Claude was a lifetime resident of Charleston's West Side, born March 4, 1933. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School. He was a Christian who read his Bible daily. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Claude was a shy and humble man who was an accomplished softball and basketball player but in later years was best known for his Kanawha Boulevard running. To many of the boulevard runners, Claude was known as "the ghost." He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude J. and Mary K. Barnes and brother, Clarence E. Barnes. Survivors include his loving sister, Mary Catherine Kline and her husband, George E. Kline; nephews, David M. Kline and wife, Theresa, Gary E. Kline and wife, Sherry and Robert J. Kline; and six great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 6-8pm at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 10 am at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
