Christina Fankhouser Christina Fankhouser, 91, of Dunbar, WV passed away on October 21, 2014. She was born in Charleston, WV on September 5, 1923 and was a Charleston resident until she moved to Dunbar in 1959 where she lived the remainder of her life. Christina graduated in 1942 from Stonewall Jackson High School. After graduation she worked for the local telephone company until she became a homemaker and caregiver to her mother. Christina also worked for several years at CAMC. She remained a caregiver off and on for many years. In addition to caring for her mother, she cared for her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister. Christina was a 55 year member of the Dunbar Church of Christ where she was an active participant until her health failed. She loved homemaking, hand crafts, watching and feeding the birds, reading and word puzzles. Christina was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Herman (Frank), her brother and two sisters and a grandson. She is survived by her son, Shannon (Betty) of Teays Valley, WV, daughter, Patricia Genzel (John) of Middletown, DE, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. The family is extremely grateful for the friendship, care and concern of her long-time friend, Lucille Fierbaugh. Additionally, the family would like to thank all of the staff members at Dunbar Care Center who gave continuous and compassionate care to Christina over the past five years. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
