Chesley "Max" Whitehair 92, of Cross Lanes passed away September 19, 2012. He retired from Raleigh Junk Company after 36 years of employment. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Medical Corp during WWII, loved Woodworking, Bowling, Church and had a wonderful imagination. Chesley was preceded in death by his parents, Chesley Robert and Nola Belle Kessler Whitehair; wife, Helen Keen Whitehair; and grandson, William "Billy" Shamblin. Survivors include son, Chesley William Whitehair and wife Anne of Mineral Springs, NC; daughter, Sharon Casto and husband Lynnwood of Cross Lanes. Grandchildren, Julie Williamson, Nikki Stump, Guy Shamblin, III and 11 Great Grandchildren. Graveside services and burial with Military Rites provided by American Legion Post 63 Clendenin will be 1:00 PM Friday at Springhill Cemetery, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating.
