Obituary

Charles Randall Newman was called home to rest with his Holy Father after a job well done. He was his good and faithful servant. Randall was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Sampson Newman and Nettie Renee McCoy Newman; siblings, Oliver, Margaret and Betty; son, Charles Randall, II and daughter Rosemary Settle. He was widowed twice in his lifetime, first losing Eva Mae Marion and Madelyn Francis Skaggs Settle. He is survived by his sons, Thaddeus Calvin Settle and wife Iris of Dunbar; Thomas Houston Settle of Beckley; Paul Eugene Newman and wife Cathy of Poca and daughter Regenia Mae Newman of Raleigh North Carolina; 7 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He attended DuPont High School and Graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Hard Knocks, Thanks to the experience of growing up in the depression and serving in The Marine Corp during WWII. As a boy, Randall and his brother went door to door with their wagons collecting garbage, starting his lifelong career of driving anything with wheels and hauling any load you'd pay him for. From a Horse Drawn Milk Wagon for Valley Bell, to an Amphibious Landing Craft to 18-Wheelers for Point Express, Ryder P.I.E. or Helms Motor Freight. A champion of the working class, Randall was active in the Teamsters Union and fought hard for the safety and fair wages and benefits of his fellow man. After being widowed the first time, single parent Randall fell in love and married another single parent Madelyn. Together, they raised their six children as one loving family. Like his name sake "Ran'l" McCoy, Randall was a great patriarch for the Newman Clan. He shared his heart and gave what he could to help any in need, often giving beyond his means. All of us who love him will strive to live up to the ideals of our loving Father and Guiding Mentor who taught love of family, hard work as its own reward and charity for those in need. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday November 16, 2013 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ravi Isaiah officiating. Burial with Military Graveside Rites provided by the Marine Corp. League will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Along with the inurnment of his daughter, Rosemary Estelle Settle. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services also on Saturday. The family will accept Memorial online condolences at: cpjfuneralhome.com Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home is serving the Newman Family.
