Charles David "Dave" Shaffer, 66, of Victoria, Texas, formerly of Elkview, WV, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Roy R. and Dorothy M. Counts Shaffer; and his wife, Pearl Shaffer. Dave attended Elkview schools, was a US Army veteran, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He loved to bowl and play golf, and spend time with his family. Surviving are his daughters, Donna Smolder of Charleston, and Melissa Shaffer of Waco, TX; sons, David Lee Shaffer of New York and Benson Shaffer of Victoria; sisters, Bonnie Legg of Charleston, and Sandra Kincaid of Gauley Bridge; brothers, Raymond Keith Shaffer of Gandeeville, Jerry Shaffer of Lewisburg, and Joseph Shaffer of West Virginia; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with military graveside rites accorded by American Legion Post No. 61 Clendenin. Visitation with the family will be one prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
