Byron R.
Hissom
February 4, 1935 – October 15, 2023
Rev. Byron "Butch" R. Hissom Sr., 88, of Sissonville left his Earthly home and entered his Heavenly home into the arms of Jesus October 15, 2023.
He was born February 4, 1935 to the late Henry Bernard and Bessie Irene Hissom.
Byron is survived by his wife of 65 years Anna Mae (Atkisson) Hissom. His two sons Dr. Byron Rolf
Hissom Jr. (Judy) and John Paul Hissom (Patti). He is also survived by seven grandchildren : Nathaniel
(Sara), Geoffrey, Andrew (Lori), Elizabeth, Josef , Matthew, and Emily. Also two great grandchildren :
Lincoln and Brooklyn.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Bernard and Bessie Irene Hissom. Also preceded by
ten brothers and sisters : Lewis (Margaret), George "Corky" (Lois), Jim (Vivian), Ronald (Eleanor),
Charles (Francis), Robert, Brenda, Julia Crowder (Frank), Carolyn Sue Fitzwater (Calvin) and Larry.
Byron was a trained Butcher, he recieved his meat cutting certification from the National School of Meat
Cutting in Toledo Ohio. He was a ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene. He graduated from the
Nazarene Bible Institute in 1964. He served as a Home Misson Pastor for 39 years from 1963-2002.
Byron also worked for the WV. Department of Highways as an Aggregate Technician for 20 years.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 1113 Lakewood Drive, Charleston, WV. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 23, 2023 at the church.
Rev. Hissom's life and legacy can be summed up by one verse John 13:35. "Everyone will know you as
my followers if you demonstrate your love to others." (The Voice) Byron embodied the Love of God to
everyone he met.

Hissom Inter-City Mission, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, WV 25302.
