Betty Rae (White) Boggs, age 87, passed on to be with the Lord and with the members of her family and friends who preceded her. She had a deep and abiding faith in her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Inside her wedding band that she wore for over 65 years was the simple inscription by which she led her life, "Prov. 3:5-6" - "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Betty graduated from Clendenin High School. She then entered St. Francis Nursing School in Charleston and graduated as a registered nurse after three years of training. She first served her community at Thomas Memorial Hospital, working as a surgical nurse. Next, she worked as a nurse in Greenville, South Carolina, while her husband, the Rev. Jake Boggs, finished his college work at Bob Jones University. When Betty and Jake returned to Charleston, Betty worked at Charleston Memorial Hospital, and did private duty nursing for a period of time. Before retiring, she was the evening supervisor at Arthur B. Hodges Nursing Home operated by the Charleston General Hospital. Betty Rae was a world traveler and co-hosted tours with her husband to the Holy Land more than forty-five (45) times. She traveled with her husband to other world destinations, including multiple trips to the British Isles, Europe, Africa, Asia, Russia, Australia, the South Pacific, Hawaii, and Around the World. Her greatest travel experience, however, was made on January 24, 2016, when she went to Heaven. "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." (I Cor. 2:9). Betty Rae was known for incredible inner and outer beauty, her witty sense of humor, her extraordinary academic skills, and her life's work as a dedicated Christian. She will always be remembered and will be terribly missed by those family members and friends that loved her the most, especially her husband who remembers her as "the most beautiful person he has even known, both inside and out." He looks forward to happy times together again with her in Heaven. Betty Rae has been reunited in Heaven with her mother Ona (Gandee) White and her father Lewis White, her four sisters, Frankie Susan (White) Shamblin, Georgia Marie White, Willa Mae (White) Bradley, and Dianna Kay (White) Maxwell. She was also reunited with her grandson, Ryan Dean VanderWoude. Betty left behind her husband of 65 years, the Rev. Jake Boggs. Their two children are Deborah (Boggs) VanderWoude of Florida, and Jonathan Boggs of Charleston. Betty Rae also left behind four (4) grandchildren: Michal Anne VanderWoude, Marlin Boggs, Garrett Boggs, and Winsor Boggs. She leaves behind three (3) siblings, her brother James (Jim) White of Charleston, and her two sisters Lois (White) Nypl of Dunbar and Mary Francis (White) Hill of San Antonio, Texas. Betty Rae's funeral service will be a celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, located at 1401 Washington Street West, in Charleston. Viewing and visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Ron Stoner and the Rev. Archie Snedegar will officiate the service. Betty Rae will be buried at her family's cemetery on Bethmont Drive in Clendenin, WV.
