Betty Jean Ranson, 77, of Sissonville, finished her earthly journey and met the Master face to face on Sunday March 6, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House after a brave battle with cancer. Betty was born on May 23, 1933, the daughter of William E "Bill" and Bonnie Lanham who preceded her in death. She was also the loving wife of Leonard R. "Ray" Ranson for 57 years before his death in April 2010. Betty was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Charleston, where she served the Lord faithfully since she was a child. She was a 1950 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School. She worked at John Lee shoes and Union Carbide before she and Ray started their family. After their three daughters were grown, she worked at Nationwide Insurance and then with Ray in the family business, Ranson Stone and Marble Company. Betty leaves behind three daughters who will cherish her memory, Sherry Baker and husband Larry; Terri Ranson; and Patti Lowe and husband Gerry. She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she was devoted to, Christopher Baker and wife Angie and their children, John, Claire, and Benjamin; Elizabeth Hamilton and her fiancé, Brent Burdette, and her children, Lauryn and Eli; Adam Sampson and wife Brandy; Ryan Sampson and fiancé, Samantha Phillips; Mandy Carpenter and husband, Randy and their children, Rhianna and Dylan; Angela Liljander and husband, Josh, and their children, Logan and Mikaylen; Kerry Langden and husband, Ray, and their children, Hayden and Haylee. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Jacobs and husband Bernard of Melbourne, Florida. Betty deeply and genuinely cared for others. She formed lifelong bonds with family and friends who will miss her thoughtful ways and caring spirit. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald L. Stoner officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church.
