Obituary

Bassil "Vic" Vickers, 84, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord July 22, 2011. Vic was born in Boone County, was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Union Carbide Corporation, Tech Center with 40 years of service. He was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church, South Charleston, and a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, Trustee and Usher. Vic was active in American Baptist Men's Disaster Relief. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Maude Vickers; brothers, Theadore and his twin Hassil Vickers; sisters, Janice Vickers, Lucy Vickers and Elizabeth Cox. Vic is survived by his wife of 57 years, LaVada Price Vickers; children, Kathy Hudson and husband Paul of Charleston; Melody Cochran and husband David of St. Albans, and David Vickers and wife Kim of St. Albans; brother and sisters, Bruce Vickers and wife Ruth of Morgantown, PA; Virginia Marie Riehl and husband Roy of Pittsburgh, PA. and Louise Carrie Harris and husband Paul of Racine, WV. Six Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Stoner officiating. Entombment will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday also at the church. The family suggests Memorial Donations to: Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1401 Washington St. W., Charleston, WV 25387.
