Basil Thaxton, 86, of Dunbar, went home to be with the Lord June 16, 2009, after a short illness. Basil was a lifelong resident of Kanawha County, a US Army veteran of WWII, and retired from Appalachian Power Company with 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dunbar, and enjoyed starting his day at the Dunbar McDonalds with his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Thaxton; parents, James L. and Althea Pugh Thaxton; and brother, James Denver Thaxton.. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Jeanie Thaxton of Cross Lanes; sister-in-law, Maxine Thaxton of Charleston; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Tom Stevens, Jr. officiating. Entombment will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation with the family will be two hours prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
