Barbara J. Smith, 89, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Barbara was born in St. Albans, England, in 1937. While living in England, she met her late husband, Joseph Smith, who was stationed there while serving in the military. Together, they built a life filled with family, love, and cherished memories.

Barbara was a sweet and friendly woman who never met a stranger. She enjoyed attending a book club in Sissonville and found joy in the simple things in life. She loved baking, spending time outdoors gardening, crafting, and especially being with her beloved cat, Harry.

In addition to her husband, Joseph, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Virginia “Jeni” Lanier.

Those left to cherish her memory include her granddaughters, Meagan Leslie and Erin Wright; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ava, and Jeremiah; sisters-in-law, Florence, Freda, Ethel, and Jean; her lifelong friend, Anita Priestley; and her dear friends and neighbors, Dennis and Mary Baldwin.

Per Barbara’s wishes, there will be no services.
