Alan Dean "AL" Woody passed from this earth on Thursday, November 1, 2018. He was born to Travis Arthur and Geraldine Woody on November 8, 1951, in Charleston, WV and was pre-deceased by both of his parents and an older brother, Larry Travis Woody.
Alan graduated from Sophia High School and the Elkins Institute of Broadcasting in New Orleans. He began his radio career in high school first for the Vocational School VICA Club, later at WWYO in Pineville, then at both WJLS and WWNR in Beckley. He had a stint at WKAZ in Charleston then moved to WMAK in Nashville for seven years. Alan came to Charleston's WQBE where he remained for the last 38 years.
Alan is survived by his loving wife, Dora Lynn Woody, and his children Kristopher Alan Woody, Sr., and wife Felicia, Travis Lee Woody, Tyler Joseph Woody, and Alison Marie Woody. He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Ethan Rylee Shamblin-Woody, Aleksandrya Marie Woody, Kristopher Alan Woody, Jr., Kyleigh Faith Woody and Tyler K.O. Woody. His sister, Karen Sue Carrick and her husband Steve and his dear friend and co-worker, Jeff Whitehead (Jeff Jeffries) also survive. In addition, Dora's children, Kristy Miller and Doug Miller and his wife, Julie, and her grandchildren Alec Miller, Aris Miller, Dalton Young and Kailey Young will miss Alan. He had a special relationship with Dora's sister Jean, and her husband Delbert and enjoyed going with Dora and his beloved dog, Coco, on Sundays to visit them.
Private services were officiated by Rev. Keith Tyler on November 7, 2018, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with burial at a family cemetery in Raleigh County. A public memorial service will be held at a future date with details to be announced on WQBE. The family would like to thank the staff at CPICU at CAMC Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care and the many friends and listeners who have offered their condolences and shared memories. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Shriners of Charleston or Capitol City Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. Donations may also be made to the Al Woody Memorial Christmas Food Drive in December. Heaven gained a special Angel on November 1.
